How spread picks work
With a negative spread (for example -6.5) the team must win by more than that margin. With a positive spread (+9.5) the team can lose by fewer than 9.5 points, or win, and the bet still wins.
That is how a heavy underdog can still be a winning tip, and how a big favourite can lose the bet while winning the game.
